Testimonials

SARAH – Aged 22, England.
I came to Jundah planning to work for 6 weeks and ended up staying in total for over 4 months. Jundah is a small town but is full of life with a good community. Whilst working here I met a variety of people both young and old and experienced what the real outback Australia is like. As well as working in the bar I got to go out fishing, swimming and camping with the locals. It is definitely the best place I have both worked at and visited while being in Australia and is an opportunity I am glad not to have missed. I would definitely recommend visiting Jundah and also working there if possible as it has a great deal to offer and can offer you something off the typical tourist trail. Well guess what? Not only did we come back again, we are now permanently here for two years that we know of, who knows what might happen next?

Jundah is a great place for any backpacker to visit; you get to see the real ‘outback’ Australia!  Even though their community is small they have plenty to offer and always welcome new-comers.  Whilst in Jundah I got the chance to watch some of the locals at work, kangaroo shooting and pig hunting….definitely something I’d never have seen on the typical backpackers trail!!!  There were lots of things to do, swim at the local pool, play tennis, learn how to fish and go kayaking along the river.  Keeping in touch with family and friends was easy too; they have free internet access at the local information centre.  I originally only planned to visit for 6 weeks, but enjoyed it that much that I came back and stayed for a total of 4 months and will definitely be coming back again sometime in the future!! Well guess what? Not only did we come back again, we are now permanently here for two years that we know of, who knows what might happen next?

KATIE – Aged 25, Canada
The funny thing about Jundah is that backpackers seem to plan to only come for a limited amount of time but somehow it always, always ends up being longer. My case may be what you would call the most extreme however. What was originally planned to be ten days has now turned into 10 months, on and off, over the last 14! Coming from a big city in Canada, Jundah was definitely a big change for me, but one I welcomed with open arms. The residents of Jundah are very friendly and welcome new faces into town with open arms.  They are more than willing to take any visitors out to show them the sites of the outback whether that be kangaroo shooting (you’ll want to do it once you are here no matter how you may feel about it now), camping, fishing on the Thompson River or even over to their house for a barbeque. If I could recommend one thing for people to do in Australia it would be to experience this side of Australian life. It is something different than what you will see travelling up the coast and is just as an important part of the country. The only word of advice I have is don’t drink the river water. The locals say that it’s drinking the river water that brings people back to Jundah and it seems that I may have had a glass or two too many since I’m at ten months and counting.

KATRINA AND DANIELLE – Aged 25, Canada
Our time in Jundah was amazing. We had such a great time and ended up staying for three months, a lot longer than we originally planned. The locals are so friendly and welcoming, we immediately felt like we fit in.  There are so many different things to do in the outback that you don’t get to do in other parts of the country and they are the parts that you remember the most because they make your trip different from all the other backpackers doing the same ‘cattle trail’ up the east coast. We have kept in touch with many people we met in Jundah and would love to go back soon and visit. We never did any hard labour out at a property but did manage to get out and see some mustering and branding and what it is all about. Everyone is willing to take you along with them and show you what happens on a property whether you want to just watch or get right in and do the dirty work.
Jundah is a great small town that can offer backpackers a different side of Australian life and show you part of life you wouldn’t experience anywhere else.

KATRINA and AISLING – Aged 22 and 23, Ireland
Hi our names our Katrina and Aisling. Where to start about one of our best experiences ever!! Well we came to Jundah for what was supposed to only be one month and ended up staying for what were three of the best months we have spent travelling so far! When we arrived we fell in love with the place and everybody there straight away! We never imagined ourselves in the outback and it’s not something you hear too much about as every other backpacker is in a rush to see the coast!  We got to see so and do so much with some of the best people you could ever hope to meet! It is the real Oz experience and truly one of the best experiences ever and is the one place we are guaranteed to return to before we leave Oz!! Thanks to our lovely boss and friend Monique and all our other friends and people we met there! Miss ye Love Katrina and Aisling xox"

Jundah is one of the nicest, most beautiful and honest towns in the world. I will never forget this town and I will go back. When I think of my time in Jundah many things come to mind like waking up in the middle of paddock when you are fencing with cows and kangaroos next to you or seeing the perfect, clear blue sky reflected in the clear water of the damns where a fishing line is dangling. Also, you have never seen so many stars as you do in Jundah. You can see the Southern Cross so clearly as well and the saucer or seven sisters. There are more but you’ll have to ask the locals, they have a better idea than me.
I really enjoyed my time working on the properties. You get to do all sorts of things from fencing to mustering cattle or sheep. It’s an amazing thing to be riding on your motorbike and see a plane flying over you while someone calls you on the radio and tells you to head the direction of the plane, towards the cattle, and bring them back with you.  It is something you will never forget.
